Titis Wardhani

Biography

Titis Wardhani is a postdoctoral research associate at the Crop Science Center. She earned her BSc in Chemistry from the University of Gadjah Mada, Indonesia. She then worked as a researcher at an Indonesian institute, focusing on pest and disease management in cocoa, maize, and palm oil. In 2012, she received a Netherlands Fellowship Programme award, enabling her to complete an MSc in Molecular Life Sciences at Wageningen University & Research (WUR), Netherlands. She continued her academic journey at WUR with a PhD in Molecular Biology, where she worked with René Geurts on cytokinin signalling in nitrogen-fixing symbiosis using Chamaecrista and Parasponia as models. She then worked as a postdoc in the same group, aiming to engineer nitrogen-fixing symbiotic traits into cassava (ENSA project). Since July 2024, she has been investigating the regenerative capacities of various cassava cultivars within the Giles Oldroyd group. This knowledge gap she wishes to resolve is fundamental for advancing genetic tools of cassava in African-elite germplasm. She will continue collaborating with WUR and research partners in Nigeria and Cote d’Ivoire (WAVE, IITA, and NRCRI).
